VALERIE SAWIAK (BUTUK) 1914 - 2002 On December 17, 2002 surrounded by her family Mom left her world of Alzheimer and Parkinson diseases behind and joined our father Paul and sister Sherron to spend eternity. Mom was predeceased by her husband Paul in June 1995; and daughter Sherron in June 1999; as well as son-in-law Don Barley 1982; brothers, Bill and Alec; and sister Mary. She is survived by her daughter Paula Barley; grandson Chris (Julia) great-grandchildren, Jessica, Connor, Carter and Colton; grandson Bob; daughter Judie Barley and grandson Gareth of Calgary; grandson Jeff Horn. Also surviving is her brother Nick (Margaret) of Medicine Hat, AB; brothers and sisters-in-law; as well as nieces and nephews. Mom will be remembered as a vibrant out-going person who always made those she knew feel comfortable and welcome. She loved a good joke and was known to carry a collection with her, always ready to share a laugh. She was an excellent cook and homemaker and everything her life touched flourished. She was our mom, our best friend and our world and we will miss her greatly. In accordance with Moms wishes cremation has taken place with private interment at a later date. Donations honouring her memory may be made to Fred Douglas Lodge or a charity of choice. Our family would like to thank the staff at Fred Douglas who lovingly cared for Mom the last three years of her life and shared that care for us as well as during her last few days.
