SAM BLUMENFELD 1926 - 2002 Following a lengthy and courageous battle, Sam Blumenfeld passed away peacefully with his family at his side on December 8, 2002 in Richmond Hill, ON. He is survived by his wife of more than 55 years Sara; and their children, Dalia, Ray, Miriam; his grandchildren, Zachary, Jessica, Ben; his sisters and brother with their spouses, Bianca and Frank Blanaru, Clara and Jack Oren, Sara and Sandu Goodman, Yitzchak and Malvena Blumenfeld; his brother-in-law Rubin and Clara Mayer; the Mayer family; the Manel family; the Haberman family; and the Mizrachi families. Sam and Sara immigrated to Canada in 1953 with limited resources and learned to adapt to a new land, a new culture and a new language. He purchased Niagara Esso Service in 1957 and ran this business until his retirement in 1988. Over more than 30 years of serving his customers in Winnipeg, Sam built a wide network of friends and associates. He was proud of the success of his business and as a leader in supporting the rights of his industry. Although his beginnings were humble, he was self-educated and well versed, with a curious mind, strong will and many interests. Our family wishes to offer its gratitude to the staff of York Central Hospital in Richmond Hill with special thanks to Brenda Hrysio and her entire team of men and women, the staff on the third floor of the Continuing Care Centre, Donna Belmore, Dr. Zatsman and in particular Dr. Fituri. Their care, compassion and concern for Sam is truly appreciated. Donations can be made to the Crohns and Colitis Foundation of Canada.
