Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERTRUDE MARY CARVELL (BOYD) December 30, 1914 - December 20, 2002 With great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, mother-in-law and grandmother, Gertrude Carvell at the Grace General Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband James B. (born December 4, 1920) in 1949, also by her sisters, Nett, Jean, May, Doris and Dorothy; by her first great-grandchild Breanna Dianne in 2001. She is survived by her son Jim and wife Bonnie, grandsons, Michael (girlfriend Nancy) and Nathan (Maria) and great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Monica and Mariel. Mom was born in Forest, ON and raised in Drayton, ON. Mom and Dad met and married in El Paso, TX on June 7, 1943 when both were in the U.S. Army. After the war they settled in Joanna, PA. Son James B. Jr. was born in Lancaster, PA on September 18, 1946. When Dad died on May 1, 1949 she moved back home to Ontario, settling in Galt (Cambridge), ON. Mom was a Registered Nurse specializing in Pediatrics and worked in hospitals in Texas, Detroit and Kitchener, among others. She worked for the Victorian Order of Nurses in Galt (Cambridge) until her retirement. After retirement she moved to Winnipeg to be near her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Even after retirement she was always the "Nurse" looking after any family members that needed her and always a source of comfort and encouragement. Mom loved her family and took a very active role in looking after her grandchildren as they grew up. She would, and did, do everything she could for her family and friends. She loved children, animals, flowers and Christmas lights. She will always be lovingly remembered. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 28 at Westwood Presbyterian Church, 197 Browning Blvd. at 2:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Rothsville, PA.
