MATTHEW KACHAN Matthew Kachan, beloved husband of Jean (nee Goshulak), passed away peacefully on December 21, 2002 at Concordia Hospital. He also leaves to mourn his passing his sister Elsie Miskiw (John) sisters-in-law Carol Urban and Vicki Horbas; nieces and nephews, Larry Kachan (Mary), Lorraine Groff (Dana), John Kachan (Ellen), Marshall Kachan, Eileen Morrison, David Glowa (Ruth), Shirley Ainsworth (Don), Bessie Downey (Paul), John House (Cindy). Matthew was predeceased by his father Nykola; mother Anna (nee Wintiak) brothers, Mike, Bill, John, Stanley; sisters, Stella Glowa and Ann House; and nephew John Glowa. Matthew was born in Rossburn, MB, and grew up on the family farm in the District of Marco. He served his country in the Second World War, and then moved to Winnipeg in 1949 where he soon met his future wife Jean. In 1952, Matthew started his own business Matthews Painting and Decorating along with his brother Stanley and brother-in-law Walter Glowa and operated it for over 35 years. He married Jean in 1955 and they lived happily together for 47 years. Matthew loved nature and gardening, and spent many hours picking mushrooms and berries with his wife Jean. Matthew was a talented painter and very artistic with his hands. He took pleasure in creating many lawn ornaments and birdhouses, and received much pleasure in giving them away. He was also a faithful member of the St. Andrews Church for many years. The family thanks Doctor Kuegle and the staff of the Concordia Hospital for the care that was given to Matthew during his stay at the hospital. Prayers will be held on Thursday, December 26 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, December 27 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Andrews Ukrainian Catholic Church, 160 Euclid Ave. with Rt. Rev. Mitrat Jaroslaw Holowaty officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Pallbearers are Dave Glowa, Dave Schab, Steve Nazarawich, Danny Koshulak, Marshall Kachan, and Dana Groff. In lieu of flowers, if friends and family so desire, donations may be made to the charity of their choice. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
