WALTER NOVAK Peacefully, on December 23, 2002, Walter Novak, at 87 years, with his beloved wife "sweety-face" by his side, passed away. Along with his wife Bertha, he is survived by daughter Waltra, her husband John Gilbert and their daughters, Jean and Michelle; son Robert, his wife Joann and children, Kristin, Jessica, and Robert; brother Malcolm, sister Jean and many nieces and nephews. Walter was born on December 29, 1914 in Winnipeg. He completed his education in Transcona and moved to Beausejour following his marriage in 1939. He served as a Chief Petty officer on the high seas with the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. Walter spent many years toiling as an "exceptional" mechanic. In 1958, he became the first Waterworks Superintendent for the Town of Beausejour. He performed his duties with a high degree of professionalism and received many awards including the H. M. Bailey Award and more recently, a forty year membership award from the Western Canada Water and Wastewater Association. He retired in 1982 after 24 years of service with the Town. Walter was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 25 years and was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion serving as President of the Beausejour Branch from 1981 to 1984. Walter was a cherished husband, father and grandfather. He served his community well and was a friend to all and respected by many. He is greatly missed and we know he is now at everlasting peace. Divine liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, December 28 at 10:30 a.m. at the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, 823 Park Ave., Beausejour with Rev. Fr. Ivan Demkiv, the celebrant.
