MARILYN GALE STECHISHIN It is with deepest sorrow the family announces the sudden passing of our beloved wife and mother on December 23, 2002. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband Peter; sons, Allan Peter (Daleon) and Douglas Robert Stechishin; her father Gerald Lenton; sisters, Judith Poole (Ken), Pat Basso (Bruno) brothers, Tom (Andrea) and Paul (Bonnie) Lenton; sister-in-law Christina Stechishin; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. Gale was predeceased by her mother Thelma Lenton. Gale was born on June 29, 1940 in Winnipeg and grew up in the St. James-Assiniboia area. She and Peter were married on May 2, 1964, and spent 38 wonderfully happy years together. A selfless, compassionate and understanding woman, her family was the most important part of her life, and she delighted in nurturing and caring for them through the years in so many special ways. Her fundamental cheerfulness and always positive outlook on life will be missed forever by all who knew her. Gale had been employed at the T. Eaton Co. store in Winnipeg but willingly gave up her career there in order to be a stay-at-home mother to her children during their formative years. Once her two sons had sufficiently grown, she commenced a new career in the child care field, first employed as a day care worker and subsequently as the director of the Lakewood Childrens Centre until her retirement in June, 2000. During her tenure as director, she took great pride in establishing and leading a support group for her counterparts in other St. James-Assiniboia day care centres, and in volunteering in many capacities with the Manitoba Child Care Association. In spite of these many professional activities she always could find the time for any child or parent at the centre who needed comfort and support. After retiring, Gale took special pleasure in reading, sewing, gardening, travel, and entertaining family and friends with wonderful gourmet meals. A private family service will be held at a later date. In accordance with Gales wishes, in lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Lakewood Childrens Centre, 55 Kay Cres., Winnipeg, MB R2Y 1L1.
