MARGARET BRAUN Margaret Braun, our aunt, great-aunt, great-great-aunt and friend, aged 94 years, died at Seven Oaks Hospital in Winnipeg on Christmas morning, December 25, 2002. She was born on February 21, 1908 in Tiegenhagen, South Russia to her parents, Cornelius and Anna Braun (nee Loewen). She immigrated to Canada with her parents and siblings in 1924. As a family they lived around and in Winnipeg most of her life, where she and her siblings found employment in their teens. Aunt Margaret worked as a maid and nanny to several families, after which she and her sister, Anne, spent most of their working years at a sewing factory. Together they looked after their parents, and opened their home to several relatives. Aunt Margaret was baptized in the First Mennonite Church upon confession of her faith, and remained a faithful member all her life. She enjoyed the music there and never missed the Messiah or Suehnopfer. She remained single during her lifetime, but "adopted" all her nieces and nephews as her children. She spent countless hours knitting and crocheting for others. No one bought mittens, baby layettes or afghans within the family, and many agencies received them as donations for the needy. She was predeceased by her parents, and all her five siblings, Abe, Jack, Mary, Anne and John; and by her nephew Dougs wife, Linda. She leaves to mourn ten nieces and nephews, 20 great-nephews and nieces; and 17 great-great-nephews and nieces, which brought new smiles to her face over these last few years. Funeral service will be held at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy., Winnipeg on Saturday, December 28 at 10:30 a.m. After the lunch, interment will take place at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Portage Avenue West. As nieces and nephews, we wish to thank the staff on the 3rd floor of Arlington Haus, for treating Aunt Margaret with the compassionate and loving care of a real family. We will miss her dearly at our family gatherings, but rejoice in the fact that she is finally safe and whole in the arms of Jesus. - The Nieces and Nephews Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
