VICTOR MONKMAN Peacefully, on December 25, 2002, at the Arborg and District Health Centre, after a short battle with cancer, Dad crossed over at the age of 87 years. He was predeceased by his wife Priscilla in 1979; and daughter Velma, son-in-law Richard and grandson Ritchie in 1965. He is survived by his children, Muriel (Bruce), Lester (Dawn), Judy (Halli), Brian (Anna), Wendy (Bert), Jeannie and Marlene; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandsons. Dad was born August 15, 1915. He resided at Monkmans Island until 1965 when the family moved to Matheson Island. Dad was a fisherman all his life, fishing his last season at the age of 80. He played the fiddle in his younger years and we enjoyed many evenings with his music. He loved to have visitors and always had a story to tell. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 30 at 2:00 p.m. in the Matheson Island Community Hall with Pastor Neill von Gunten officiating. Interment to follow in the Matheson Island Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his nephews, Ken, Ron, Ernie and John Mowat, Doyle Lea and Melvin Whiteway. The family would like to extend their special thanks to the staff at the Arborg Hospital for all their care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Victors memory to CancerCare Manitoba, Box 2248, Stn Main, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9. Gilbart Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
