WILLIAM (BILL) ZELINSKY After a lengthy and courageous battle, William Frederick Zelinsky, aged 69, passed away December 22, 2002 in St. Boniface General Hospitals Palliative Care Unit. Bill is survived by his loving wife Jean (McKay) son Ron (Danielle) and step-children, Susan (Les), Randy (Lindor) and Barry (Sheila). He will be missed by grandchildren, Kristin, Jason, Bradley, Ashley, Jenna and especially Katie -- "his little sweetheart". He also leaves nephew Walter Zelinski. He was predeceased by his parents, Sophia and Louis; Rons mother Elizabeth; and his brothers, Mike, Tony and Walter. Bill was born in Winnipeg and raised in North End. He grew up in the Depression years and quickly learned the value of hard work. After brief careers with Canada Packers and CN Railway, he spent 31 years with the City of Winnipeg Streets and Traffic Department. Bill and Jean enjoyed travelling and visited Hawaii, Las Vegas, Montserrat, Mexico and England together. After purchasing a fifth wheel trailer in 1997, Bill loved taking driving holidays to the west coast, California, Las Vegas and Myrtle Beach. He enjoyed time spent at the trailer in Gimli and visits from friends, family and especially granddaughter Katie. Bill and Jean spent some good afternoons at the Legion visiting with friends. Bill was noted for his generous spirit and for the countless favours he did for Ron and Danielle and his stepchildren. He was always there for the kids and walked down the same path. Bill was the one who was willing to carve the Thanks-giving turkey, mow the lawn and volunteer with a paint brush or a hammer. The family would like to thank the staff at the Victoria General Hospital Oncology Department and the loving staff at the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Funeral service will be held Friday, December 27, 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Cremation has already taken place. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Budzey, Michael Howanyk, Barry Cooper and William Slowski. In lieu of flowers, if friends and family desire, donations in Bills memory may be made to the Palliative Care Endowment Fund through the St. Boniface Hospital & Research Foundation, 409 Tache Ave., Room D 1003, Winnipeg, MB R2H 9Z9.
