Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALVIN SALTZMAN The family wishes to announce the death of beloved Alvin Saltzman at the age of 85. Born June 10, 1917 and passed away December 13, 2002 at his Winnipeg residence. A funeral service was held on December 16, at Lions Place (special thank you to Fred Shane and Marvin Slutchuck), Als remains were later laid to rest with his fallen comrades at the Brookside Cemetery Military site. Al grew up in Winnipeg on Luxton Avenue with parents, Gertrude and Nathan Saltzman; sister Pauline (Shane) brothers, Harry, Leo (all deceased) and surviving brother Cy currently residing in Richmond, BC. Al attended Luxton and St. Johns High School and competed in a myriad of sports in the North End of Winnipeg. Al was a Second World War Veteran serving with the Scottish Essex from 1939-1945. After returning from overseas, Al married Florence (Macdonald-deceased) and had five children, Danny (Lori), Geneva Macgillivray (Bob), David (Dana), Rowena and Jackie (passed away October 15, 1998). Al was employed with Continental Clothing Co. and was a member of the Northwest Travellers Assoc. for over 25 years. Upon retirement Al lived with wife Hazel Hunter (passed away October 7, 2001) at Winnipegs Lions Place where they were valued and respected for their involvement and caring. Al was stepfather to Carla, Earl, Tricia, John, Sharon (passed away July 4, 1989), Micheal and Bill. Al was a grandfather to Tara, Shari, Maggie, Laura, Angus, Autumn, Rose, David, Rhiannon, Aaron, Jordan, Gillian, Ezra, Meka, Jackson, Siobhan, Harlan. Al was uncle to Len, Fred, Marvin, Cyrill, Noreen, Ellen, Judie, Nori, Shelly, Lance, Jan. The family wishes to thank the Staff at Lions Place for their ongoing support and caring, along with the many friends and neighbours enriching Als life. Al was recognized for his honesty, integrity and courage. He was a loving and caring husband, father, friend and will be missed and remembered by all who knew him.
