Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRETA PEARL ANNETTE BARBER (nee DAVID) December 2, 1934 - December 28, 2002 It is with deep sorrow that our family announces the passing of Reta; wife, mom, grandma, and friend. Reta, aged 68 years, passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre on Saturday, December 28, 2002. Reta will be sadly missed, and lovingly remembered by Terry, her husband of 48 years; sons, Lance (Lynne), and their children; Jack, Laura, Emily, and Miles (Val), and their son Terry. While raising the boys, Reta completed her Bachelor of Science Degree, followed in short order by her Masters of Science Degree in 1979. Reta was a Past President of the St. Agnes Guild of the Childrens Hospital. Reta was the founder, and Chairperson, of the Manitoba Grassroots Figure Skating Bursary Fund which she established in 1983. The Bursary has assisted numerous Figure Skaters over the years with awards directed at offsetting the skaters costs. For her contribution to the sport of figure skating, the Manitoba Sports Federation designated Reta as an Outstanding Volunteer in Sport in 1985. In 1996, the Manitoba Section of the Canadian Figure Skating Association elected Reta to membership in their Honour Society for her outstanding contributions to the development of Figure Skating in Manitoba. Invariably, our thoughts of Reta turn to the family cottage situated at Kenrecia Road - Clearwater Bay. It was at the Lake where Reta was in her glory. The immaculate gardens with Hummingbirds flitting to and fro, the feeding of the squirrels, chipmunks and rabbits, the Blue Jays and Gray Jays. It was here that Reta taught us all to regard nature with an awe, and a certain amount of respect. Our familys gratitude to all the staff and doctors of the Health Sciences Centre for their compassion and tenderness, while Reta was in their care. A memorial celebration of Retas life will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway with Monsignor Norman Chartrand presiding. Our family requests that in lieu of Flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
