MARGARET MABEL ANNE JOHNSTON Margaret died peacefully, surrounded by her family, on December 27, 2002, after a brief battle with cancer. She is survived by her loving husband Bert; daughter Meryle and son-in-law Sandy, grandchildren, Ben, Jamie and Graeme; son Tom and daughter-in-law Jesdene; sisters, Meryle and Joanne (Howie) brother Doug (Ruth) and brother-in-law Dick (Olive), and their families. Margaret was born in Stratford, ON on November 6, 1913, the eldest child of Norman and Mabel Finlayson. She grew up in East Kildonan, where she was an active member of John Black United Church. She worked for the T. Eaton Company prior to her marriage. She and Bert settled in Norwood in 1947 and lived on Hillcrest Avenue for 54 years before moving to Lions Manor. When her children were young, she was an active member of the executive of Champlain Community Club. She was a champion bowler in several ladies leagues until her early 80s. She retained life-long friendships from her youth, her work, and her bowling, that endured until death. Margaret spent many happy summers at "Johnstons Haven" at Victoria Beach, where her wild blueberry pies were justly famous. She was devoted to her extended family, and was happiest when she could bake, cook, or otherwise express her deep affection in tangible ways. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Special thanks to the staff of the palliative care ward at St. Boniface General Hospital for their kindness to Margaret and her family. Funeral service 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 2, 2003, at St. Georges Crescentwood Anglican Church, 168 Wilton St. at Grosvenor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. BARDAL FUNERAL HOME 843 Sherbrook Street, 774-7474
