Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMICHAEL SCHROMEDA Peacefully, on Friday, December 27, 2002 with his family by his side, our father, grandfather, and uncle passed away, at the age of 95 years. His is survived by his three children, Lily Schromeda, Peter (Marilynn), and Elizabeth (Bob) three grandchildren, Kimberley, Deborah, and Warren (Veronica) five great-grandchildren, Brianna, Melissa, Hillary, Kirstyn, and Julia. Dad is also remembered by one sister Mary Rydz of Burlington, ON; and cousin Fred Homeniuk of Winnipeg; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister Anne (Ukraine) and three brothers, Harry, Fred (1999) from Selkirk, MB, and Nickolas (2002) from Vero Beach, FL. Dad was born in Tlymach, Ukraine on November 15, 1907 and immigrated to Canada with his mother, brothers and sister in 1927. They first landed in New York and then immigrated to Manitoba, Canada, settling in the St. Andrews area where the family started farming. One of the first jobs Dad had was hauling gravel by horse and wagon for the Lockport Bridge. In 1929 he started working at the Manitoba Rolling Mills in Selkirk. After 43 years of service he retired in 1972. His favourite pastime after retiring was a Sunday drive to the family cottage at Ponemah to be with his grandchildren. Autumn was a special time for him where he and brother Fred would help with the harvest. Active pallbearers are grandson Warren Skromeda, nephew Bill Skromeda, David Skromeda, Randy Skromeda, Alex Woloshyn and Cameron Fay. Private service for family and relatives will be held at Gilbarts Funeral Home, Selkirk, on Tuesday, December 21 at 10:30 a.m. A viewing will be held one half hour prior to the service. A come and go tea in memory of Mike will be held on Tuesday, December 31 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the house of his son Peter and Marilyn for anyone wishing to pay their respects. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at the Selkirk and District General Hospital for their exceptional care. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
