HELEN FITZ 1908 - 2002 Peacefully on Sunday December 29, 2002, Helen Fitz passed away at Extendicare Oakview Nursing Home with family at her side. She leaves to cherish her memory son Ron (Joyce) and grandchildren, Greg and Grant, living in Toronto; son Mervyn (Audrey) and grandchildren, Brent (residing in Los Angeles) and Brenda in Winnipeg; sisters, Evelyn Barlock (Toronto), Emily (Tootsie) McCauley (Toronto), Norman Hayes (Winnipeg). Helen was predeceased by husband William (Bill) brothers, Bill, Walter and Eddy Hayes; and sisters, Irma (Bubbles), Elsie and Marlene. Mom was born in Winnipeg and resided here all her life. She married Bill Fitz on November 3, 1928, and they enjoyed over 60 years together, living most of those years on Dominion Street. For a number of years, Mom worked at The Bay Downtown in the cosmetics and lingerie departments and periodically modeled in The Bay fashion shows. After a few years, she opted to remain at home to devote time to her family. She and Bill were longtime members of Trinity Lutheran, in later years transferring to Lutheran Church of the Cross and latterly Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. For many years, she was active in the Ladies Aid at Trinity. Helen was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and wife. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends who were involved in her life. The family would like to thank the staff of Oakview for their care and compassion during her years there. A viewing will take place on Thursday, January 2, 2003, at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave. (entrance on Aubrey Street), from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Burial will be on Friday, January 3, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. at Brookside Cemetery with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Neil Bardal Inc. with Pastor Leon Gilbertson officiating. Pallbearers will be Brent Fitz, Dennis Hicks, George Hayes, Jim McDermid, Dave Holder and Sergio Daniel. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in Helens memory to Extendicare Oakview Place, 2395 Ness Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3J 1A5, or to a charity of their choice.
