EUGENE ("TITI") LANDRY It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eugene Landry, aged 85, at Foyer Valade on Thursday, December 26, 2002. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughter Lise Johnston (Patrick), grandson Christopher, sister Olive "Tiny" (Arnold) Deere, sister-in-law Odile Parent, many nieces and nephews and his very special friend Joyce Carter. Eugene was predeceased by his beloved wife Aline (Bissonnette) and granddaughter Cara in 1984, by his parents, David and Cordelia (Bellemare) his siblings, Alida, Raymond and Lucien who all perished in a fire while asleep on the 2nd floor of the family home when Dad was an infant. Although he never knew them, these angels always held a special place in his heart. Eugene was born in Ste. Elizabeth, MB October 29, 1917. In 1919 the Landry family moved to St. Jean-Baptiste where Dad grew up. In years to come he was very involved with the Emergency Measures Organization (EMO) during times of flooding, helping to protect his hometown from disaster. During the Second World War he served with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles Regiment. In 1946 Dad was employed by the Manitoba Department of Highways where he worked for over 35 years until retirement. In 1951 Eugene married Aline Bissonnette. In 1957 daughter Lise was born. The family moved to Fort Garry (Winnipeg) in 1959 living on Hudson Street for over 40 years where cherished longtime neighbours and friends still reside. Dad took great pride in his home and enjoyed puttering with carpentry and woodworking in his spare time. Although the family lived in the city "Titi" never lost his love for the countryside. He took great joy in taking long drives in the Volkswagen van touring the quiet rural areas in Manitoba. Lise would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Foyer Valade where Eugene lived for the past three years. Your loving care for my Dad was always evident especially near the end of his journey. This love was also extended to myself during Dads courageous battle and because of your kindness and concern, know that I never felt alone. Funeral services will be held at St. Vital Catholic Church, 1629 Pembina Hwy., Rev. Fr. Patrick Morand officiating, on Thursday January 2, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. Viewing will be at 1:30 p.m. prior to the service. A private family interment will follow at a later date in St. Joseph, MB. Flowers are gratefully declined. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, or to a charity of ones choice.
