Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER JOSEPH MELLEN Sadly, on December 28, 2002, Walter passed away and will now be at rest. Walter was predeceased by his wife Stannis; sister Betty Blahey; and brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Shirley Melenchuk. Walter will be lov-ingly remembered and dearly missed by his daughters, Susan (Ken) Robson of Edmonton, AB, and Kathryn Mellen (Victoria) of Australia; grandson Elijah of Edmonton; sisters, Eveline (Bill) Blahey of Timmons, ON, and Mildred (Bob) Burns of Toronto, ON; brother Bill (Donnie) Melenchuk of Maryfield, SK; brother-in-law Walter Blahey of North Bay, ON; his special niece Debbie Hewson and her children Kelly and Michael; many other nieces and nephews; several special friends, especially Brigid Malone and her family. Walter was born in Winnipeg on April 28, 1919, spending most of his youth in Fairlight, SK. He moved back to Winnipeg, making his home in River Heights with Stannis, Susan and Kathryn. Walter served the Royal Canadian Army for five years within Canada. His career was servicing and selling automobiles for Breen Motors, Century Motors and Pembina Dodge. Walter was an active member of St. John Brebeuf Church, serving as a proud Eucharistic Minister for many years. He enjoyed bowling, curling, travelling (especially to Hawaii and Australia) and his summers at their cottage in Grand Beach. Prayers will be held 7:30 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2003 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 3 at St. John Brebeuf Church, 1707 John Brebeuf Pl. with Rev. M. Koryluk officiating. Interment will follow in St. Marys Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of Grace Hospital and Deer Lodge Centre for aiding Walter in his recovery. A special thank you to the staff and residents of Lindenwood Manor for their friendship and care in Walters last months.
