DOREEN MAY DRAFFIN (nee DUKE) Doreen May Draffin passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness, at Oakview Place Nursing Home. Her husband John, parents John and Ivy Duke and her brother Raymond predeceased Doreen. Doreen was born in Cornwall, England, in 1921 and grew up in Plymouth, Devon. In 1945, Doreen married John and immigrated to Canada as a War Bride in 1946. Doreen is survived by daughters, Doreen (Douglas Evans), Elizabeth (Gary Farrell) and son Richard (Maureen). She is also survived by grandchildren, Jennifer Faircloth (J.P. Nunn), Christopher Faircloth (Michelle), Pamela and Jonathon Faircloth, Lisa Farrell, Shawna, John and Alex Draffin. Doreen took great pleasure in her great-grandchildren, Mia, Sam, Sarah and Elisabeth. Doreen is survived by her family in England, sister Betty (Donald) brother John (Margaret) sister-in-law Doris; and many other relatives. Doreen was very active in the community of Weston and Calvin Presbyterian Church. Doreen chose to stay at home to raise her family and was very involved in all of their activities. Doreen was a loving, caring wife, mother and grandmother. She will be deeply missed by her family. Cremation has taken place; a memorial service will take place on Saturday, January 4, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave. (entrance on Aubrey Street). The family would like to thank the staff at Oakview Place, especially the second floor for their care and compassion to Doreen during her years there. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations in Doreens memory to go to Oakview Place (Recreation Department), 2395 Ness Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3J 1A5, or to St. Amant Centre, 440 River Rd., Winnipeg, MB R2M 3Z9. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your mother, Doreen. I remember seeing you at the DMCI 75th Anniversary and recently re-discovered my DMCI Breezes yearbook.
