ALEXANDER MICHAEL KOZAK START THE DAY WITH LOVE LIVE THE DAY WITH LOVE END THE DAY WITH LOVE It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, grandpa, brother, and friend Alex Kozak at age 66 on December 31, 2002. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 44 years, Elsie; his three children, Kim (Kathy), Terry (Margaret), Tracy (Justin) and nine grandchildren, Chanelle, Alexis, Justin, Amy, Everett, Zachary, Mitchell, Jordan and Emily, (otherwise known as Jamacjzee). He is also survived by brothers, Borys, Wally (Tudy) and a multitude of nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Evelyn Kozak. Alex was born in Macklin, SK and raised in the town of Wadena, SK. A place that he held dear to his heart and that will always be home. In 1961 the Kozaks moved to Winnipeg. Alex was passionate about everything he did. By profession a teacher in heart and soul. His love for teaching was permeated through his students and colleagues. Not a week passed by when one of his former students didnt cross his path. He would surprise many by remembering their name. The sporting community of North Kildonan and River East benefited from his passion for teaching and working with kids. The hockey players that Alex coached experienced first hand his cool calm and collective attitude. Many will remember his inspirational sayings that he prepared for his players, which adorned the walls of the dressing room. Alex was also a devoted member and past president of Holy Eucharist Parish Council. He was president of Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood and also found joy in helping at church with the perogy project. Alex was involved with numerous groups within the church. The youth and Marion Hour will surely miss his kind and gentle guidance. He held many positions of honour. He was a charter member of Holy Eucharist Council No. 11330, Knights of Columbus Past Grand Knight, Fourth Degree member of Canon Luhovy Assembly serving as Faithful Captain. He was also the Chairman of the Manitoba State Basketball Free Throw Contest and Chairman of the Knights of the Ukrainian Catholic Archaparchy (KUCA). He was actively involved in the KUCA Youth Winter Games. Alex served as Vice Chairman of the Ukrainian Catholic Council of Manitoba. Alex credited much of his energy and ability to be involved in so many organizations to his nutritional supplements USANA, daily dose of garlic, and his almost daily aqua jogs at the YMCA. The many people he touched will miss him dearly, but his gifts of loving, his natural ability to always bring a smile to others and his warm friendship to many will live on. Retirement for him was a real adventure, planning many activities and adventures with his adored grandchildren. Many hours where spent enjoying the company of his grandchildren and family members by the backyard pool and driveway. The family pets would always enjoy their visits and stay with Grandpa. In recognition of Alexs love of children, if friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alexs memory to Ronald McDonald House. The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff at Concordia Hospital as well as the paramedics (platoon 1 station 24) and firefighters from 421. Prayers will be held on Sunday, January 5, at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 6 at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 505 Watt St. Interment will take place at Holy Family Cemetery.
