Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNA MABEL GILCHRIST (nee BROWNLEE) After a long full life, Anna died on January 1, 2003 at the age of 93. For 62 years, she was the cherished wife of Bill who died in 1999. After Bills death Anna faced day-to-day challenges with humour, enthusiasm, dignity and a strong will. She was very appreciative of the support from family, friends and caregivers, especially over the past five years. Left with loving memories of this dear woman are her children; Jim and Doris Gilchrist, Pat and George Robb, Helen and Jim Searle; her grandchildren, Jeff (Sonja), David, Sharon, Karen (Greg), Craig (Kristin) and her four great-grandchildren, Kayla, Branden, Kate and Eric. Anna was born to David and Evelyn Brownlee in Sinclair, MB. One of eight children, she was predeceased by brothers, David, Rankin and Cecil; and sisters, Beatrice and Jean. She will be missed by her sister Chrissie Lewthwaite, brother Archie (Sheila) Brownlee, sister-in-law Helen Brownlee and several nieces and nephews. Anna graduated from the Brandon School of Nursing in 1932 and nursed in Brandon before her marriage. She returned to nursing when her children were grown, working at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital in Winnipeg until she retired in 1968. Anna and Bill raised their family in Waskada, Deloraine and Winnipeg. Anna was an avid gardener, lawn bowler, bridge player, knitter and reader. She provided great support to both friends and family. She treasured the friendships made in her church activities, the Schoolmasters Wives Association, Tuxedo Lawn Bowling Club and several bridge clubs. The family is most appreciative of the respect, gentle care and warm affection provided by the entire staff at the Fort Garry Care Centre where Anna spent the last five years. A memorial service will be held at Westworth United Church, 1750 Grosvenor Ave. on Monday, January 6 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, friends may wish to donate in Annas memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301 - 352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8, or to any other charity.
