GEORGE GORDON SCHUMACHER Peacefully, surrounded by his family George passed away on January 1, 2003. He was predeceased by his father Georges, mother Sophie and daughter Suzanne. George will be lovingly remembered by his wife Marianne and his children, Louise (Ron) Davey, Sharon (Bruce) Pember, Gordon (Shauna), Ted (Suzanne) and Heidi; grandchildren, Diana, Jaime, Kelly, Breanne, Kayla, Clinton, Kevin, Robyn, Ayden, Dayna and Madison; great-grandchildren, Alyssa and McKinly; his sister Aimee Ibbott; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his best friend and cribbage partner Glen Shaw. George was born in Winnipeg October 7, 1930. He attended St. Johns College and United College where he met his wife Marianne. George was an extremely hard working big gentle man with a wily sense of humour. A man of few words but he expressed happiness with love and friendships. He was a loving husband and caring father, grandfather and great-grandfather. As a former Manitoba Skeet Shooting Champion he was an outdoors man who loved hunting and fishing. He served as a Hunting Safety Instructor and a member of The Fort Garry Game and Fish. He also enjoyed his fathers vocation of cooking, trained as a professional chef at the famed Institute de Hotelier in Neuchatel, Switzerland. He later owned restaurants in The Grain Exchange and a Gondola Pizza. He retired from the restaurant business in 1981 and subsequently worked for The Manitoba Adolescent Centre where he enjoyed ten years as a chef working with the children and staff. The family would like to express thanks to all those involved in Georges care on the 3rd Floor, Grace Hospital. If friends so desire, donation in Georges memory may be made to a charity of your choice. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 6 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Funeral arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
