Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHILDA MAY SHICK (nee WALKER) Hilda Shick of Brandon passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 31, 2002, at the Assiniboine Centre. Hilda was born January 8, 1913, in the town of Boissevain where she was raised and attended school. She was predeceased by her parents Alexander Wesley Walker and Sarah Elizabeth Walker; her husband George Henry Shick; and both sisters, Marjorie and Florence. She is survived by her children, son Clayton Wesley (Bette) of Winnipeg and their children, Charlene, Douglas (son Britain) and Greg; daughter Noreen Elizabeth (Melbourne) Drosdowech of East St. Paul and their children, Darren (Catriona), daughters, Nadine and Sonja, Kerri (son Liam) and Noelle; son Dennis and children, Nicole and Kyle. Also surviving are many cousins, nieces and nephews. Hilda married George in 1936 at Westminster United Church in Winnipeg. In 1947, a move was decided upon and Dauphin became home for the next 18 years. While there, Hilda was active teaching Sunday School and was involved in the Ladies Auxiliary at the Dauphin United Church. She was also a member in good standing with the Rebekah Lodge. In 1965, upon Georges retirement from the Highways, they moved back to Brandon. Hilda then enrolled at the Technical School and upon completion of a stenography course, worked in the Highways office until her retirement in 1978. Our mother was steadfast and true, dependable and a great homemaker. She took pride in her home always and made it a wonderful place for her family. She thought of others as had her mother before her, and followed the example of charity and kindness. She was independent, found pleasure in family gatherings and in keeping busy, especially with her wonderful knitting projects. She felt close to her church, and was very appreciative of her many cousins and good neighbours. We loved her dearly and will miss her so very much. A funeral service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on Saturday, January 4, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. John Nesbitt of Trinity United Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Boissevain Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Clayton and Douglas Shick, Melbourne and Darren Drosdowech and Dennis and Kyle Shick. Flowers are gratefully declined.
