JON "JOHN" SIGURDSON 1910 - 2003 The family is saddened to announce the peaceful passing of our Dad and Afi at his home in Oakview, with family by his side. Jon was born March 2, 1910 on the homestead in Oakview, MB. He married Helga Gislason on January 7, 1939, and together they farmed and raised four children. Jon farmed his own farm for 40 years and when he transferred the farm to his son, he continued to work with Ken until he lost his eyesight. Even with the loss of his eyesight he continued to give sound advice on farming issues. Jons favourite hobby was big game hunting. Jon and his lifelong friend and brother Siggi enjoyed hunting together. He was known as an excellent marksman among the hunting party. His other hobbies included fishing, trapping, and playing baseball in his youth. Jon was predeceased by his parents, Einar and Oddny; his loving wife Helga in 1981; brothers, Skapti (Runa), and Valdimar; sisters, Heida (Johannes), Thorun (Jon), Svava (Albert), Veiga (Joe) and grandson Derrick. Jon was a loving, caring Dad and Afi. He is survived by his daughters, Solrun, Jean (Les), Joy (Fred) son Ken (Carolyn) brother Siggi (Rae) grandchildren, Lorraine (Andy), Wanda (Mike) and Darlene; great-grandchildren, Lisa, Devin, Danielle, Ryan; and great great-grandchild Katlyn; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 4, at 2:00 p.m. in the Siglunes Community Hall with Rev. Colin Peterson officiating. Interment to follow in the Oakview Cemetery. Viewing at the hall prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Franklin Plohman, Brian Anderson, Asgar Sigurdson, Dr. Sigurjon Sigurdson, Pat Myrdal and Larry Gislason. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rolf Forseng, Gummi Jonsson, Pete Davidson, Einar Sigurdson, Einar Burch and Ernest Eiriksson. The family would like to thank Dr. Lee Isaacs, Patsy Klyne, Darlene Springer, Dr. Piesas, Homecare Workers and Arnason Funeral Home. We would also like to thank friends, relatives and neighbours who stopped by to visit. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lakeshore Hospital Guild, care of Runa Mangl, Box 591, Ashern, MB, "For Use in the Palliative Care Unit." Arrangements by Arnason Funeral Homes Ltd.
