BENJAMIN HOLYK 1910 - 2002 Ben passed away peacefully on December 30, 2002 at the Arborg Hospital at the age of 92 years. Left to mourn his loss is his wife Anne of 69 years; sister Pauline in Livonia, MI; son Paul (Shirley) grandchildren, Barbara (Dennis), Wyatt (Heather), Maggie, Mark (Colleen), William (Tammy) son Bennie (Loris) grandchildren, Kerry, Audra (Jim), Kyle (Roberta) and 11 great-grandchildren. Ben was predeceased by his parents, Paulo and Jean; brothers, Myron, Kerry, Harry Holyk; and sister Anne. Dad was born in Ukraine, coming to Canada at six months. He grew up in the Shorncliffe, MB area. He married Anne in 1933, and moved to Riverton where he worked at various jobs, Howards Mill, MacKenize Island gold mine, Bjornsons fish camp at Kinwow Bay, and with Paul Luprypa as a mechanic. In 1947, Ben built and operated Holyks Garage in Riverton, and in the 50s started Holyks Store (building a new store in the 60s), that he ran until 1973. Ben then retired to Kelowna, BC in 1974, returning home in 2000. Dads many interests included oil-painting (scenery), which he distributed to friends and relatives, photography, wood crafts, carpentry and was always tinkering with something, not giving up until it worked. Dads unique wit which always put a smile on somebodys face will be one of the many memories we will cherish. A memorial service will take place this spring. MacKenzie Funeral Home.
