IRENE LESTER Peacefully, on January 1, 2003, at the age of 88 years, Irene passed away at the Victoria General Hospital. She had enjoyed living at Misericordia Place since May, 2002. Irene was born in Winnipeg on June 16, 1914, daughter of the late Michael and Pauline Wlosek. She was predeceased by her husband Martial on December 23, 1945 and her son, Martial on March 3, 2000. She was also predeceased by her sister Helen and brothers, Walter, Nicholas and Peter. Irene raised a loving family of three, Martial, Theresa and Bernadette. She rose to the challenge of raising her children during the tough years after her husbands death. Irene is survived by sister Fran (Alf) two daughters, Theresa (Frank) and Bernadette (Fred) daughter-in-law Lis; grandchildren, Martial, Michael, Christopher, Melanie, Cynthia, Kathleen, Charlynne, Sandra, Michael and numerous great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild and numerous friends and relatives. Irene loved to travel and take bus trips to many places in the southern U.S. after her son and daughters had grown and left home. She worked in the mens wear section of Eatons downtown store for many years. Mother loved spending time with her family, solving crossword puzzles, knitting and crocheting. She also loved to go shopping and have lunch with her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was generous and loved all her family. Special thanks to the many doctors, nurses and health care workers who attended to Irene the last three years of her life. These include, Concordia General Hospital, Misericordia Health Centre, Victoria General Hospital and all the staff at Misericordia Place who made her so comfortable the last several months. Prayers will be held on Sunday, January 5 at 7:00 p.m. at the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley St. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 6, at Misericordia Place Chapel at 10:00 a.m., 44 Furby St. Interment will follow at the St. Boniface Cemetery, 917 Archibald St.
