SOPHIE NAHARNIE (nee KOZUN) Peacefully on December 29, 2002 after a brief illness, Mom passed away at Grace Hospital at the age of 87 years. Mom was predeceased by her parents, Max and Annie; husband Henry; brothers, Mike, Tony, Peter, Bill, John, Nick; and sister Mary. Left to mourn are daughter Betty and husband Ray; granddaughters, Monique, Michele; and great-grandson Ernie and partner Yvette; and great-great-granddaughter Destinee; granddaughter Nicolle and husband Fred; and great-granddaughter Jessica; son Andy and wife Dianna; grandsons, Corey and Darren; and great-granddaughter Mhaiya; son Ray; and grandsons, Chris, Mike and partner Jamie; and great-granddaughter McKinly; also sisters, Dora, Nellie, Ann and Katie; sister-in-law Annie; plus many nieces and nephews; stepbrother Terry; and stepsister Hazel. Mom was a very private and quiet person. As a small child she was badly burnt. Sophie left home at 14 years old, but times were hard (dirty 30s). In 1939 she married Dad. This was during wartime. As the family grew, we moved around for work living in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and finally settling in Winnipeg in 1950. As this was the year of the big flood we lost everything. Mom went to work as a seamstress and was employed for over 30 years when she retired. Family was very important to Mom. She loved having all her children and grandchildren for family dinners. After retiring she travelled to see family across Canada and USA. In later years she enjoyed crocheting and reading. The family would like to thank Dr. Macek and the nursing staff on 5 north for the care and comfort given to Mom. A private family service was held on Friday, January 3, 2003 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. The funeral service was conducted by The Very Rev. William Wasyliw and Cantor Steve Naherniak. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a burn unit of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
