CARL ROSS WADDELL We sadly announce the sudden passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and brother on Sunday, December 22, 2002. Carl Ross Waddell was born in London, ON in 1938. He attended school in London until the family moved to Thedford, and then to a farm in Tesswater. It was here the family split up when Carl was 13, and it had a lifelong effect on him. The summer he quit school in 1954, he hired on with a gang installing lightning rods on Ontarios high barns. They took advantage of his fearless climbing abilities (he only fell once, but was lucky to land on some soft farm material). He then worked short stints at Swifts Killing Factory in Walkerton, ON. Then he moved to Chesley, ON where he worked at Chesley Chair and Krugs in 1955, and later in Knectles and Peppler Furniture Factories in Hanover. After a short time in the Army in Alberta, he returned to Chesley and worked at Owen Sound RCA Factory, and later in Kitcheners Branch. Chesley was where he met his wife of 46 years, the former Yvonne Muir. They dated for two years and married in 1957. In 1961, they sold their home and bought a farm in Spearhill, site unseen, where they struggled as a family now, to farm by milking cows and later raising beef. He took several long courses in upgrading and agriculture through the years. In 1966 they returned to Ontario discouraged, but came back one year later and started farming again, as it still hadnt been sold. Carl supplemented this by driving other peoples gravel trucks and then got his own, and drove school bus for several years. In 1974 and 1975 he and his family built all new buildings on the farm. This led to construction and taking out a crew one year. He also worked a few years for the Schwartz Bros. building and plumbing. He had a great respect for these two employers. Carl like to deal and would take something no one else used and fix it up and paint it. Every tractor, et cetera, in the early years got a good cleaning and painting. His frugalness not only allowed us to all to live in this harsh province but also provided hours of interesting work to learn from. In his last years, he enjoyed tinkering with snowmobiles and 4-wheelers. To coin a phrase When they made Karl, they threw away the mold; anyone who knew him can attest to this. He was much loved and his death came too soon. He was predeceased by his mother Ada in 1997, several aunts, uncles and other relatives too numerous to mention. Not to mention numerous pets, the most beloved being his cat called Temper. He will be sadly missed and mourned forever by his devoted wife Vonnie; and beloved children, son Tony (Renee), daughter Terry (Jack), and son Wade (Carrie) grandchildren, respectively, Jennifer and Connor, Trevor and Brandy, Brittany, Courtney, Darian and Jarred, all of Manitoba. Also left to mourn are sisters, Barbara, Lillian, Marion, Robin and Roberta; and brother David, all living in Ontario. Numerous nieces and nephews; two foster sisters, Darlene and Shirley who shared our home for 10 years. We will miss you Carl, but youll always be with us in some way, every day of our lives. Time is a circle and all of us will meet again. In accordance with his lifestyle, and at Carl and his familys request, there will be no service, cremation has taken place. Private burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Lakeshore Hospital Guild, care of Runa Mangl, Box 591, Ashern, MB For Use in the Palliative Care Unit.
