WENDY ANN (BAILEY) BELL Following a long and courageous battle with breast cancer, it is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Wendy. She passed away peacefully to her heavenly reward on January 4, 2003, aged 49 years, at the Palliative Care Unit of the St. Boniface Hospital. She was surrounded by family and friends throughout her illness and again particularly on the day she died. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, translated into prayer, good work and a zest for living that touched the lives of everyone who came in contact with her. Wendy was predeceased by her mother Gwenda and father Harold. Wendy has left to mourn her passing, her husband Edmond; sisters, Eva (Joe) Carolyn; niece Bonnie (Denis). She leaves behind a large extended family, including a very close circle of friends, who will miss her dearly. Wendy was born to Gwenda and Harold (Hopcraft) Bailey in Winnipeg on November 10, 1953. Wendy contracted polio at an early age. However, this never prevented her from leading a full life. Wendy grew up in Brooklands (St. James), attending school and graduating from St. James Collegiate, then on to Angus Business College. Due to her disability from polio, she overcame many obstacles including developing a one-handed typing style. Wendy was interested in travel and in her early adult years travelled to England, U.S.A., and various places in Canada, Clear Lake being her favourite. Wendy developed a great love and found great satisfaction doing petit point. However, she had to once again develop a technique in order to produce the beautiful petit point creations. Wendy enjoyed bowling, darts and swimming. In later years, Wendy was introduced to Country and Western dancing, where she excelled. She entered competitions in Canada and U.S.A. and won a number of awards. She would have loved to continue this interest, however, due to her illness she could only watch. Wendy was recently honoured for her 30 years of employment with Quick Transfer Ltd. Colleagues frequently remarked that if anyone in the office needed to know anything regarding office policy or procedure, they have only to ask Wendy. A special thank you to the Mueller Family for all their support, kindness and compassion given to Wendy during this most difficult time in her life. A Faith By Which To Die When we have lost someone we love, it is often difficult to let faith shine through a saddened heart. Reason and faith will tell us however, how can we lose that which is being held in the bonds of love and everlasting affection? When something is lost it is because we do not know where to find it. But Jesus said "I go to prepare a place for you. I will come back and take you to myself, so that you will be where I am." We have not lost Wendy for we know where to find her. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to St. Boniface Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, the doctors, nurses, special services workers and all the support staff for the compassionate care Wendy received during her stay. A special thank you to her homecare nurses, Ann and Lynn. Your guidance and support to our family helped make Wendys final days comfortable and possible. Thank you, also to Frances for volunteering her time with Wendy. Wendy has chosen her honorary pallbearers: Kaj Aslak, Bill Bell, George Bell, Jim Hart, Lawrence Kolybabi, Ken Matthews, Denis Pescitelli, Larry Prysizney, Steve Stepien, and Gerry Suski.
