Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEOFFREY CALL April 11, 1922 - January 5, 2003 Peacefully, at the age of 80, at Deer Lodge Centre. Beloved husband of Helen Call (nee Stebnicki). Much loved father of Liz Olson (husband Kenn) and grandpa of Graeme, all of Winnipeg; and brother of Peter in California. Geoff was predeceased by his father George Call, mother Gertrude Call (nee Wilkinson) and his sister Vera Brown. Born in Wetherby, Yorkshire, England, young Geoffrey came to Winnipeg with his family in 1930. He joined the R.C.A.F. in 1940 and during the Second World War served as an airframe mechanic in several countries throughout Europe. After returning to Winnipeg he began work with Northern Electric Company as a telecommunications technician. He married Helen in 1948 and worked throughout Ontario and the prairie provinces until the mid-1960s. He was employed by Manitoba Telephone System in Winnipeg from 1969 until his retirement in 1991. Geoff and Helen loved getting away to the cottage at Victoria Beach whenever they could. He had a special affinity for his pet birds and cats, caring for them tenderly. A private person who quietly bore the pain of his wartime memories and various disappointments in life, Geoff nevertheless possessed a delightfully absurd sense of humour. His off-the-wall comments usually provoked a bemused chuckle... or an occasional puzzled frown! A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, January 11 at 11:00 a.m. in the Deer Lodge Centre Worship Centre, 2109 Portage Ave. Interment will take place at a later date. Very special thanks to Fred Greengrass for the gift of his friendship over the years. Thanks also to the staff of Tower 5 for the excellent care given to Geoff during his four years at Deer Lodge Centre. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations in Geoffs memory may be made to the Deer Lodge Foundation, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3J 0L3. WOJCIKS ALL BELIEFS & FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665
