Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLEONARD DAVID BIRD It is with deep sadness the family announces the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, Leonard David Bird on January 5, 2003. He was predeceased by his wife Ann and leaves to mourn his daughter Patricia with husband Shane and their daughter Cathryn of Washington, DC; his son Larry with wife Michelle and their daughters, Anna and Victoria of Winnipeg; and his son Alan of Oslo, Norway. Leonard was born on May 13, 1911 in Selkirk, MB and worked for 38 years as a steelworker at the Manitoba Rolling Mills. He and Ann were married in 1946. Throughout their lives Leonard and Ann were devoted parents to their children and were an inspiration to each of them. They were strong and principled people who their children were privileged to have as their Mom and Dad. Leonard was a skilled carpenter who built the home in which he and Ann raised their family. Upon Leonards retirement from the MRM he also built the family cottage at Bay Shore Heights on Lake Winnipeg. The family will always cherish the memories of their summers at the lake. He had a special relationship with each of his granddaughters and will be fondly missed by each of them. Besides his immediate family he leaves to mourn his sister Pearl Bird; sister Dorothy Ramsey and husband Pat; brother Gordon and wife Sally; and his nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his parents, sister Nora and brother Edwin. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at the St. Boniface General Hospital, particularly those in the Emergency Department, 5B Medicine and the Palliative Care Unit, as well as Desmond from Speech Therapy and Fr. Roland for the kind and compassionate care that Leonard received during his recent illness. Funeral liturgy will take place on Friday, January 10 at 1:30 p.m. at Mary Mother of the Church Parish, 85 Kirkbridge Dr. with Rev. Fr. Carl Tarnopolski presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at Assumption Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Laurie Frost, Ryan Hopgood, Ken Loomes, Dean Rochon, Gerry Rochon and Derek Thorsteinson.
