JACOB EDGAR ISAAC 1914 - 2003 On Sunday, January 5, 2003, surrounded by his family, Jacob Isaac died peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital after a short battle with metastatic cancer. Jake was born in Lichtfelde, Russia, on December 18, 1914, and immigrated to Canada with his family in 1924. Graduating from medical school (University of Manitoba) in 1940, he joined the Winnipeg Clinic as one of its original five members and remained on staff for 54 years. During his distinguished medical career, he held positions of Chief of Surgery at the Winnipeg Clinic and the Misericordia and Concordia Hospitals, as well as lecturer in surgery at the University of Manitoba. His extraordinary surgical and teaching skills, his sense of humour and his compassionate, gentle spirit will be fondly remembered by many people whose lives he has touched. Above all, Jake found happiness in family life. Married for 60 years, he is survived by his best friend and wife Agnes; daughters, Valerie Reed and Marilyn Stewart (Malcolm) four grand-children, Mark Reed (Kathy), Graham Reed, David Reed and Amy Stewart; one great-grandchild Campbell Reed; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his youngest daughter Carole, tragically killed in a car accident in 1962. The Isaac family expresses deep appreciation to the doctors and staff of Victoria and St. Boniface Hospitals, especially Dr. John Foerster and to Dr. R. Kippen of the Winnipeg Clinic. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Mennonite Foundation of Canada for the Dr. Isaac Fund, 12 - 1325 Markham Rd., Winnipeg, MB R3T 4J6 or the Mennonite Central Committee, 134 Plaza Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3T 5K9. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 10, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Mennonite Church at the corner of Notre Dame and Alverstone with Dr. John Friesen officiating. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
