Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMICHAEL (DMYTRO) KOSTENUK February 9, 1910 - January 5, 2003 It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Michael on Sunday, January 5, 2003 at Seven Oaks Hospital in peaceful dignity surrounded by his family. Left to mourn is his beloved wife Anna and best friend of 63 years; daughter Corinne (Villebrun) son Randy; and two precious grandchildren, Tamara and Kyle. He is survived by sisters, Maria, Domka, and Hafia in Cherniovtsi, Oblast; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins in the Ukraine. Michael was born in the Bokovena Region of Ukraine and like so many others he left in search of a better life and arrived in Canada in 1927. He worked his way to Winnipeg in lumber and construction camps. After working for a short time at Canada Packers, he began working for the Canadian Pacific Railway and remained there until his retirement in 1974. In those early years he and Anna moved with the C.P.R. from Morris to Fanneystelle, Bagot and finally to Portage la Prairie. He worked as section foreman, snowplough operator and road master. They spent 25 years in Portage la Prairie where many wonderful friends were made and much time was spent railroading. His love of the railway always remained with him. Michael was extremely hard working and put forth his best effort in everything he did. His love of politics, education, Ukrainian culture and sports was an inspiration to all his family. In 1985 Michael and Anna took the trip of a lifetime and returned to visit his homeland Ukraine. Michaels whole life was devoted to his family, Anna his loving wife, his pride and joy were his two children Corinne and Randy, Gigi celebrated and adored his two grandchildren, Tamara and Kyle. We will never forget his generosity, devotion, long stories and sense of humour. His loss leaves us sad and heavy hearted. We were so lucky to have him with us so long. To Dr. Miskiewicz, Dr. Braun and the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital we thank you. Your attention to our father will never be forgotten. Funeral service will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. on Thursday, January 9 at 10:00 a.m. with Very Rev. John A. Melnyk officiating.. Interment to follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.
