MAUREEN MARY DESGAGNES (nee DUTCHUK) Peacefully, on January 6, 2003 at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg with her family by her side, at the young age of 56 our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Maureen Desgagnes lost her courageous battle with cancer. Maureen was predeceased by her mother Mary in March of 2002 and her father-in-law Thomas Desgagnes in April of 1994. Maureen will be lovingly remembered by her husband Yvon Desgagnes; son Jim (Laureen) Berezowsky; daughter Kimberly Desgagnes (Sean Cheeseman) father Nick Dutchuk; sister Sandra Dutchuk and her daughter Lisa Malenfant; grandchildren, Zachary, Jared and Chase Berezowsky. Maureen is also survived by her mother-in-law Madeleine Desgagnes; brothers-in-law, Denis (Mireille) Desgagnes, Nelson (Helene) Desgagnes, Bernard (Edie) Desgagnes; sisters-in-law, Denise (Gille) Poirier, Raymonde (Dominique) Gemme, Rejeanne (Maurice and godson Patrick) Fortin, and Andree Desgagnes (Yvon Picard) along with numerous nephews and nieces. Maureen was born February 17, 1946 in Midmar, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. In June of that same year she came over to Canada on the Queen Mary with her mother and settled in Paddockwood, SK. In 1952 she moved to Prince Albert, SK. She gave birth to her son Jim in 1965 from a previous marriage and was remarried in 1970 to Yvon Desgagnes. They resided there until 1972 when she moved to The Pas with her newly wed Yvon and son Jim. Maureen then gave birth to her daughter Kimberly in March of 1974. In the fall of 1974, Yvon and Maureen and kids moved to Thompson, MB where they spent the next 28 years and settled in The Pas in July of this past year. Maureens true loves in life were her involvement with Victim Services and the RCMP where she worked tirelessly towards helping others under extreme circumstances. On March 2, 1996 in Thompson, Maureen received a commendation for her dedication for providing assistance to a family and relatives who experienced a tragedy. The commendation was presented by J.D. Moodie, commanding officer of D. Division. As a family we understood how happy this truly made her feel as dealing with people was where she excelled. Her other love was working in her yard, taking care of the flowers and of course, decorating her home. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Harris and Dr. Parham and all the wonderful nurses and staff on the 2nd floor of the Grace Hospital for all their effort towards helping Maureen and her family enjoy her last days before her passing. The memorial service will be held in The Pas on Saturday, January 11 at the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cathedral at 1:00 p.m. A private interment will take place in Prince Albert. If you wish, donations can be made in her name to the Canadian Cancer Society. Special thanks also to all of Maureens family and friends for their support during this difficult time.
