Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHAROLD JAMES CLARKE Died peacefully at Hampton Terrace, Burlington, on Wednesday, January 8, 2003 in his 93rd year. Mr. Clarke was born in Victoria, Conception Bay, NF on October 22, 1910. He was a telecommunications pioneer in Newfoundland and Canada. After graduating from Dalhousie University in 1932, he joined the Post and Telegraphs Department in Newfoundland. Mr. Clarke served in the Canadian Army Signal Corps during the Second World War and was discharged in 1945 with the rank of Captain. He returned to the Post and Telegraphs, becoming Assistant Secretary. After Confederation he joined CN Telegraph and was made Superintendent of the Newfoundland Region. In 1955, he was appointed General Superintendent of the Western Region in Winnipeg. In 1959, he moved to Toronto as Assistant General Manager of CN Telecommunications. Mr. Clarke retired in 1975 as VP of CN Rail and GM of CN Telecommunications. Beloved husband of Kathleen (nee Osmond) Clarke. Loved and respected father of David (Diane), Helen (Richard), Harold Jr. (Barbara), Katherine, and Peter (Sandra). Cherished Granddad of Katherine, Jennifer, Allyson, Michael, Erica, Matthew, Gregory, Margot, Julie, David, Maggie and great-grandchildren, Eric, Joshua, Alec, Charlotte and Meghan. Visitation at SMITHS FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of the QEW) BURLINGTON (905-632-3333) on Tuesday, January 14 from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Cremation. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy to the Halton Wentworth Alzheimer Foundation would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
