HARVEY ROY PORTER With deep sadness we announce the passing of Harvey Roy Porter on January 3, 2003. He was predeceased by his parents, six sisters, four brothers; his loving wife of 59 years, Kathleen; sons, Arnold (1942), Wayne (1991), Keith (2002) and one grandson Douglas (1996). He is survived by his daughter Laverne Scott (Kelvin) of Belmont and sons, Kenneth (Irene) of Winnipeg, Glen of Killarney, John (Reta) of New Westminster, BC; daughters-in-law, Eleanor of Carman and Joan of Edmonton; brother-in-law Ted Stouffer of Hartney; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Forsyth of Winnipeg and Margaret Stouffer of Brandon. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Roy was born the fourth son of John and Elizabeth Porter on March 21, 1903 in Lena, MB. From the age of 13 he worked on farms for his grandfather and uncles. He worked as a logger for a short time, drove a school bus for the Turtle Mountain School Division and then worked as a section man for the CPR until his retirement in 1972. Roy married Kathleen Stouffer on January 3, 1928 in Holmfield, MB. They lived and raised their family of seven in the Holmfield area all their married life, until Kathleens death in October 1987. Roy continued to live in Holmfield until September 2002 when his health failed and he moved into Bayside Personal Care Home. In accordance with Dads wishes cremation has taken place. The family has planned an interment and celebration of Dads life and 100th Birthday for March 21. We would like to thank the Doctors and nurses of Tri-Lake Health Centre for the care given to Dad over the past few years. Special thanks to the caring staff at Bayside Personal Care Home for their wonderful care, support and compassion shown to Dad and to us, his family, over the past four months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dads memory to CancerCare Manitoba, The Arthritis Society or the ALS Society of Canada. The Killarney-Boissevain Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
