BESSIE PERMUT RUDER Peacefully and with dignity on November 20, 2002, just a few weeks short of her 76th birthday. Born in Winnipeg in 1926, youngest child of the late Sarah and Harry Permut. She was predeceased by her husband Harry Ruder, her brother Hymie and sister-in-law Ruby Permut, and her niece Naomi Permut. She is survived by her brother Irwine (Ike) and sister-in-law Ruth Permut of Winnipeg; her niece Marsha Permut of Ottawa; her nephew Arnold and wife Susan Permut of Winnipeg; her niece Harriet Permut of Surrey, BC; her niece Judi Gottlieb of Israel; and her great-nieces, Janie Permut of Winnipeg and Jessy Kapitany of London, ON; and her great-nephews, Ari Kapitany of Ottawa and Aryeh and Zvi Gottlieb of Israel. Bessie passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal, the city where she lived since her marriage in 1964. She was interred on November 24, 2002 at a private service at the Baron de Hirsch Cemetery in Montreal. Bessie was a very devoted and loving aunt and great-aunt and will be sadly missed by her family. She never forgot a birthday or an anniversary and worked hard to keep lines of communication open, regardless of circumstances. Her family extends its sincerest appreciation to her devoted caregiver Grazyna (Grace) Klos, for her kind heart and loving soul. She gave the family much needed peace of mind to know that Bessie was not alone when her family was distant. In dealing with Bessies illness, the deficiencies in our system for end of life care became more than apparent. To honour Bessies memory and spirit, the family has established a fund to assist in the training of palliative caregivers in our community. If one wishes, the family would appreciate donations to be sent to the Bessie Permut Ruder Memorial Fund, Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, C400 - 123 Doncaster St., Winnipeg, MB R3N 2B2. Telephone enquiries may be directed to the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba Tribute Card Line at (204) 477-7525.
