VERA E. STRATTON (nee WOODBECK) 1914 - 2003 Vera E. Woodbeck was born on June 8, 1914 in South Gillies, Thunder Bay, ON to parents, Manford and Emma Louisa Woodbeck. Vera married Alex. J. Stratton on August 24, 1939 and moved to Winnipeg, MB. Alex and Vera Stratton made their home in Winnipeg, MacGregor and Hazelridge, MB. They raised four children: M. Joyce (Bill) Morrison, sons: Don, Jim and Carl (Wendy...children: Brandi and Toni) Alex "Sandy" (Judy) Stratton, daughter: Tracey (Dave Cochrane), son: Glen (Romi:...children: Krystal and Lisa) Elizabeth "Betty" (Brian) Bowes, (son: Davison) V. Lynne (Jerry) Chabluk (children:...Amanda and Matthew). Vera was a foster mother to Randy Baptiste, Lee Pomfret, Douglas Daniel Marsden, Mitchell Sokoloski and Perry Flett. Vera was predeceased by parents, husband, four sisters, five brothers and grandson Davison. Vera loved her surviving brother Colin Woodbeck and his wife Nellie. Vera will be missed by numerous relatives in Thunder Bay. Vera made many friends at Riverside Lions Estates and Vista Park Lodge. She shared a special bond with Edith and Arthur Fischer, Bertha Gatchell, Olive Dent and Pat Sopher. To love a mother, and then to part Is the greatest trial to the human heart. A cherished smile, a heart of gold, To the dearest mom the world could hold. With aching hearts we whisper low God Bless You, Mom, well miss you so! Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 14 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint). A private family interment will take place at a later date at Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to The Arthritis Society, 105 - 386 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 3R6.
