DEREK COLIN SMITH It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Derek Colin Smith, on Friday, January 3, 2003, at the age of 40. Derek was born in Winnipeg on January 18, 1962, and was a lifelong resident of West Kildonan. A longtime employee of Sears Canada, Derek had recently attained a new position with Coghlans Ltd. Among Dereks many interests were movies, reading, flying kites and golfing. Derek loved music and always surrounded himself with it. He was a Montreal Canadians fan. He also loved fireworks, a fascination introduced by his mother, and was known for rigging together a deluxe burning schoolhouse. We will always remember Derek sitting on the veranda with his Max cup of coffee. He had a kind heart and was always helpful to others. Derek was predeceased by his mother Diane Smith; and by his grandparents Frank and Alice Chalmers and Colin and Doris Smith. He leaves in passing his sweetheart Karla Dunlop; father Lloyd Smith; brother Terry (Kris, Jade, Noah, Brandis) sister Karen (Roman) Kozelko; as well as aunts and uncles. A memorial service will take place in Emerson, MB, this summer. Memorial donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society. What we keep in memory is ours unchanged forever.
