WILLIAM ARTHUR BOWDEN May 26, 1908 - January 10, 2003 Bill passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on January 10, 2003 at Riverview Health Centre following a heart attack the previous week. Bill was born on May 26, 1908 in Puddington, England and immigrated to Canada in 1920 settling in Winnipeg. At the age of 14 Bill thought the farming life sounded exciting and moved near Snowflake working first as a hired hand and then later buying his own farm. He married Florence Booker in 1941 and they enjoyed 59 years of married life until Florences death in 2000. Together they raised three children and farmed until 1966 when arthritis forced Bill to leave his carefully tended farm. Bills life was characterized by hard work, healthy living and love of family. He was a proud father and devoted husband. Bill is survived by his children, Bryan (Darlene), Clare (Doreen) and Ardith (Barry Bolander) by his grandchildren, Marny (Keith Dyck), Trevor (Shannon), Carrie, Rodney (Colleen), Stacey and Michael; and by his great-grandchildren, Nathan and Konrad Dyck, Karissa Bowden and Chloe Bowden. He was predeceased by his wife Florence, his adoptive family of Ada, Percy and Olive Williams and Stan Shilson; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Elsie and George Booker; and his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Gertie (Elgin McArther), Leslie (Mary) (Grace), Bill Hillman, Albert (Elyda), Verne, Roy (Irma), Eldon (Nellie) and Wilbur. He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Violet Hillman and Lillian Booker; and brothers-in-law Clarence Booker and Jack Booker (Velma). In his early years Bill enjoyed curling, picnics and Sunday drives. After retirement Florence and Bill enjoyed travel to Hawaii, winter in Victoria and numerous bus tours throughout Canada and the United States. In his later years Bill enjoyed watching curling and the Blue Jays on television and keeping up with the news. The family would like to thank the staff of Riverview Health Centre for the care given to Bill during his stay at Riverview. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Robert Campbell and Pastoral Associate Rose Ferries of Westminister United Church on January 14 at 12:30 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. with viewing one-half hour prior. Interment and reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, as expressions of sympathy, donations in Bills memory may be made to the charity of ones choice.
