ELLA TRAUTMANN With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ella Trautmann our wife, mother and grandmother on Friday, January 10, 2003 at the age of 78. She will be remembered by her lifelong friend and beloved husband of 55 years, Willi; her daughters, Petra LaRiviere and Rita Trautmann (Tom Tomchyshyn) grandchildren, Jason and Justin LaRiviere, Drew and Dana Tomchyshyn. Left to cherish her memory are family and friends here and in Germany. Mom was born Ella Frank on October 29, 1924 near Odessa in the town of Worms, Ukraine. Surviving a childhood and youth of oppression, famine and war, she married Wilhelm Trautmann on June 14, 1947 in Hamburg, Germany. In 1951, they immigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg where they worked together to raise their family in an orderly, peaceful home. Home and family were the joys of Moms life. She worked outside the home for many years while keeping her house with energy and enthusiasm. Mom tended her flowers with great care and was reluctant to leave her garden at the end of each day. Always, our family was our mothers priority. She held high expectations for her children and grandchildren and she did all in her power to ensure our well being. Ella was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother to her four beautiful grandchildren. We were in her home often and we were in her thoughts always. We are thankful to our family and friends for their support and encouragement during the difficult months of Moms illness. We are blessed to know that we are not alone. We extend heartfelt thanks to the staff and volunteers of the Palliative Care Unit of the St. Boniface Hospital who perform their work with the utmost grace, respecting the physical and spiritual dignity of individuals and families. We treasure the gift of your care. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 15, at 2:00 p.m., at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., with a gathering of family and friends to follow in the Glen Eden Reception Centre.
