LAWRENCE McINNES Peacefully on January 6, 2003 in Langley, BC, after a lengthy illness, Lawrence McInnes passed away. Lawrence was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary; brothers, Norman, Donald, Gordon, Ivan, Tom; and sisters, Beatrice, Mary, Jean, Ida and Margaret. He leaves to mourn his two sisters, Gladys (Russell) Bell and Dorothy (Bill) Earl; and many nieces and nephews. Lawrence was born October 21, 1919 in Giroux, MB and spent his early years there. The family moved to Sioux Lookout, ON in 1933 and then to Winnipeg in 1936. During the Second World War Lawrence joined the Armed Forces as many young Canadian men and women did. After a short time in the Air Force he joined the Merchant Marines. He served with the Merchant Navy until 1945, when he moved to Vancouver, BC. In Vancouver he worked as a deep-sea salvage diver on a tugboat for many years. Later in life he worked at Kingsway Transfer until his retirement in 1985. Lawrence was proud of his adventures. From his wartime voyages to far away lands including Africa, India and Asia to travelling from Vancouver to Sioux Lookout on his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He held many past memories of colourful friends, places and events that he openly shared. Strong, sensitive, generous and caring is the way we will remember him. May God Bless him. Cremation has taken place and interment will take place at Clearspring, MB in June. Far-called, our navies Meltaway; On dune and headland Sinks the fire: Lo, all our pomp Of yesterday Is one with Nineveh And Tyre! Judge of the Nations, Spare us yet, Lest we forget - Lest we forget!
