FLORENCE OLIVE RUTTAN (nee GRIERSON) Florence Olive (nee Grierson) passed away peacefully on January 9, 2003 after a lengthy hospitalization. Born August 29, 1907 in Alexander, MB, Olive had a lifetime career in nursing in Brandon, Lethbridge, Vancouver, Seattle and Winnipeg (Deer Lodge Veterans Hospital). From there, she and her husband Rod retired to Victoria, the land of their dreams and kindled a new passion for world wide travel. Olive was a loyal member and Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Ruth Chapter No. 22, Saanichton. Olive and Rod were well known within their community circles, especially at their last home, The Wellesley of Victoria. Proudly independent with a wicked sense of humour, she was tenacious to the end, outliving most family and friends and in 2001 was predeceased by Rod, her devoted husband of 46 years. Olive leaves nieces, Muriel and Doreen; nephew Edward; and her husbands family in Victoria. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at The Aberdeen Hospital for their high standards of dedication and compassion in caring for Olive during her final difficult years. We give thanks she can now be free from suffering. A memorial service with reception will be held at First Memorial Funerary Chapel, 1155 Fort St. (no flowers please) at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 17.
