PATRICIA SOROKA After a long courageous battle with cancer, on Monday, January 13, 2003 at the Dr. Evelyn Memorial Hospital, Stonewall, Patricia Soroka, beloved wife of the late John Soroka, passed away, of Stonewall and formerly of Warren and Marquette, MB. Predeceased by her husband John in April 2002; her sister Betty; and brother Stanley. Survived by her two sisters, Barbara Beyer and Josephine (Henry) Green; also numerous nieces and nephews and other family members. Patricia was born in the county of Wiltshire, England, January 6, 1925. She came to Canada in 1928 with her family and settled in Saskatchewan. On April 27, 1948 she married John Soroka and settled in the Marquette area where they farmed. She was active in the community and was one of the founding members of Warren Pool, Marquette Co-op, Poplar Heights Credit Union, Meadow Lea Curling Club and Hall. Patricia enjoyed crafts and knitting and was active in sports and a fan of baseball and curling. Many thanks to the doctors and nursing staff of Dr. Evelyn Memorial Hospital, Stonewall, for their care and support, and all the home care workers who assisted Pat in Stonewall and Warren. A special thanks to the Stonewall Health Palliative Care Unit and also to the many family and friends who visited Pat throughout her illness. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 18 at 1:30 p.m. at the Meadow Lea Hall. Bev Ward will officiate with interment to follow in the Meadow Lea Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, PO Box 2248 Station Main, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 9Z9 or a charity of ones choice.
