MARGARET EVELYN AWREY Peg Awrey passed away quietly on Monday, January 13, 2003 at the Carman Memorial Hospital in Carman, at the age of 88 years. She was predeceased by her husband Mel on November 29, 2002; by her parents, her sister and brothers-in-law Allegra and George Hyslop, and her brother Cliff Miller. She is survived by her brother-in-law Milton (Barbara) and several nieces and nephews. Margaret Evelyn Miller was born in Carman on July 28, 1915 to Arthur and Ethel Miller. Peg took her early schooling in Saskatchewan as her parents farmed there for several years, moving back to Carman in 1925 where she finished school. She worked as a hairdresser until her marriage. In 1944 she married Mel Awrey of Myrtle where they farmed. In 1952 they built a home in Roland and continued to farm form town. Peg was interested in sports, especially curling, she was an Honorary Life Member of the Roland Ladies Curling Club. She and her rink reached the Provincial Finals one-year and took part in the playoffs in Winnipeg. For many years Peg and Mel spent their winters in Mesa, Arizona. In 2000 they moved to the Boyne Towers in Carman. At Pegs request cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at the Roland Cemetery on Wednesday, January 15 at 2:00 p.m. with Chuck Ross officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow in the Roland Memorial Hall at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Boyne Lodge, Box 1644, Carman, MB R0G 0J0. Doyles Funeral Chapel of Carman in care of arrangements.
