Leslie was born and raised in the Carleton District north of Morris. Les married Joy Rowan of Winnipeg in 1959 and they raised two children, Gordon and Kimberley. He farmed with his father Charles Snarr and later with his son Gordon. Les loved the outdoors, working with cattle and horses, and growing his crops. He took great pride in his work. In 1997 after the flood, he was diagnosed with cancer, but after surgery and treatment he recovered somewhat. In 1998 he was hospitalized and later moved to the Red River Valley Lodge, where he received such wonderful care from the staff.
