ELSIE HASTMAN (nee ZIELKE) 1927 - 2003 On Saturday, January 18, 2003 at the Beausejour Hospital, Elsie beloved wife of the late Emil Hastman, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour. Left to cherish her memory and Godly examples, are her daughter Elaine Kaatz (Ray) her three sons, Harvey, Ronald (Janice) and Robert (Olga) grand-children, Kelly Hastman, Tammy Neish (David), Chad Kaatz (Mollie), Dana Naismith (Ryan), Jessica and Rachel Hastman. Also left to mourn is her brother Harry Zielke (Nancy) and her sister-in-law Joan Zielke and her nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her husband Emil; her parents, Edward and Martha Zielke; brothers, Arthur and Lloyd. Mom was born June 2, 1927 in Golden Bay, MB. She married Dad in 1947 and together they farmed for 40 years. In 1986, they moved to Beausejour where Mom enjoyed retirement to the fullest. Our Mom was sociable by nature and cherished the many and diverse friendships that she established. She was also very conscious about keeping relative lines alive. Social gatherings, outings and travels renewed her keen appreciation for life. Mom was always involved in her church, serving on the ELCW and the choir. She was a member of the Beausejour Health Auxiliary and enjoyed working at the annual craft show. She volunteered her time at Togs N Treasures. Mom was an avid gardener and this past summer, in spite of her illness, worked so diligently in her vegetables and beautiful flower beds. She deeply missed Dad working beside her in his rows of potatoes. Her character always emerged through her kindness and generosity of spirit. She helped others around her in profound ways, expecting nothing in return. She celebrated others successes as she would her own. She had great dignity and even at the end of her life, was more concerned with everyone around her, then with her herself. Each of the children feels very blessed to have had her as our mother. She was an inspiration to her grandchildren, taking interest in their lives and always encouraging and supportive. Her home was always open and one never left without being offered food or drink or good conversation. We will miss her cookies and pies. The family expresses their sincere gratitude to the exceptional nurses and support staff for their care and compassion during Moms lengthy stay at the Beausejour Hospital. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 23, at 2:00 p.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church, Beausejour with Pastor Dale Berg officiating. Interment will follow at the Beausejour Town Cemetery. Friends may view at the Sobering Funeral Chapel Wednesday, January 22, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and at the church prior to the service. Although we are sad that youve left us, Your strength will see us through Just knowing that youre at peace now Will keep us close to you. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so desire, donations may be made in Moms memory to the Beausejour District Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, Box 1690, Beausejour, MB R0E 0C0, or to the Zion Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
