Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN ARTHUR NORTON John passed away peacefully on Friday, January 17, 2003, at the Charleswood Care Centre at the age of 89 years. John was born in Starbuck on October 16, 1913, the third child of Art and Mary Belle Norton. After attending the local school, John took up farming. In 1936, he married Thelma Demler and they made Starbuck their home until moving to Winnipeg in 1992. In addition to farming, John enjoyed many outdoor activities, especially hunting and fishing. As John and Thelma grew older, they wintered in Texas where deep sea fishing was often a daily event. John was also a lifelong hockey enthusiast, initially as a player and later as a spectator. John was predeceased by Thelma in 1996; as well as his parents; sister Violet; and brothers, Lyle, Ernie, Clint and Bill. John will be sadly missed by his three children, Gail (Harvey Janke), Bryan (June) and Susan (Bruce Dagg) as well as six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Johns family would like to thank all of his care givers over the years, particularly those at the Charleswood Care Centre. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 23, at 2:00 p.m. in the Starbuck United Church, Starbuck, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Kidney Foundation, 200-55 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 1L8, would be appreciated.
