MARY (MYRTLE) ELEANOR MELNYCHUK (nee GOLANOWSKI) 1932 - 2003 Suddenly on January 20, 2003 at the Arborg and District Health Center, our wife, mother and grandmother passed into the arms of God. Myrtle was born in Meleb, MB to Francis and Albert Golanowski. She went to school in Meleb, Rembrandt and Teulon and later furthered her education at Success College. After college, she was employed as a medical secretary at the Boyd Building in Winnipeg. Myrtle moved back to the Arborg district and married her husband Peter M. Melnychuk in October 1956. She is survived by husband Peter; daughter Andrea, son Randy (both at home) daughter Patricia, son Dennis (Karen) and her three grandchildren, Harlan Dudrak, Austin and Morgan Melnychuk. She also leaves her brothers, John (Doreen) of Vernon, BC, Edward (Patti), Bert and Walter Golanowski of Surrey, BC. She was predeceased by her mother Francis (Hurrie) and Albert Golanowski; as well as two brothers in infancy. As well she leaves to mourn many special nieces and nephews. Our mother, being the wife of a farmer and contractor, had many tasks at hand while still raising a family. Mom would be up until all hours of the night, doing payroll, washing clothes and making meals for the next day, taking any spare moments she had to devote to her children. Besides this she was also secretary of the Silver Church and volunteered for many other community organizations. Her latest devotion was to the M.P.C. Park Fundraising Committee, where she spent countless, enjoyable hours with dear friends. The greatest joy of her life was her three grandchildren, whom she loved so much. The time Mom spent with them will impact the rest of their lives, more than she will ever know. Those who knew Mom would agree, what she did, she did, whole-heartedly. Her kindness was always evident in her smile and concern for others. She was genuinely interested in what everyone had to do or say. She was unselfish to a fault, and keeping her family at close ties was ever so important. Words cannot express the sorrow we feel from the loss of our mother, but only hope we can learn what she has taught us about kindness, love and respect. Thank you Mom. Prayer services will be held on Thursday, January 23 at 7:00 p.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel in Arborg and funeral service will be held at St. John the Baptist Church in Silver at 10:30 a.m. on January 24. Pallbearers honored will be Steven Klym, Art Penny, George Hurrie, Nick Hurrie, Leonard Buchko and Dennis Rigey. Arbog (MacKenzie) Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
