She was predeceased by her husband Frank in 1996. Caroline, mother, Babcia, sister and friend, will be sadly missed by five children, Theresa (Bruce) Hanson, Anthony (Theodora), Janice, Helene, and Tom (Teresa) five grandchildren, Cori, Julia, Chelsey, Brandon and Mason; one sister Jessie Chudzik and family. She will also be missed by special friends, Angela, Sadie and Olenca. Mom was a very warm, intelligent and thoughtful person. She loved the arts; classical music, opera and ballet. She loved nature; flower gardening, bird watching and mushroom picking. She was an avid reader and card player. Mom passed on many of these qualities to her children. Mom was born on May 26, 1921 to John and Catherine Olbert in Winnipeg. She was raised in the North End and worked in the garment industry. She made many friends and especially enjoyed her summer trips with her girlfriends Angela and Stella Shozda. In 1952 she met her husband Frank Wackerman on the steps of Holy Ghost Church. They married and raised five children across the street from the church. Holy Ghost was very important in her life as her faith was strong. She belonged to the church choir and her children attended Holy Ghost School. Carol and Frank were longtime members of SPK, Polish Combatants Association. For many years she was President of the Ladies Auxiliary. They volunteered many hours to the Folklorama Pavilion and Club 13 Bingo. She remained active with SPK even after moving to Victoria, BC with Frank in 1988. After Franks passing in 1996, she moved to Vancouver to be closer to daughters, Janice and Helene. According to Carolines wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 25 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. with Rev. Fr. Sam Argenziano officiating. Ash interment will take place at a later date in Victoria, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carolines memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. God grant us Serenity to accept the things we cannot change, Courage to change the things we can and Wisdom to know the difference. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
