JACQUELYN JEANELLE HURMA (nee GILCHRIST) After a courageous battle with cancer on January 22, 2003, Jacquelyn Hurma, beloved wife of David and loving mother of Jelena, passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital in the Palliative Care Unit with her husband and daughter by her side, at the age of 48 years. Jackie will be dearly missed by her beloved husband David; her loving daughter Jelena; her parents, Nelson and Emma Gilchrist; her father and mother-in-law, John (Sylvia) Hurma; her brother and sister, Barry (Lynda) Gilchrist and their children, James and Laura; Judy (Ron) Smith and their children, Byron and Shannon; her sister-in-law Beverly (Darrell) Poolie; as well as numerous relatives and dear friends. Jackie was born on February 27, 1954 in Altona. She was raised on the family farm near Emerson to the age of 12, where she then moved to Winnipeg. She was employed at the University of Manitoba in 1977 where she was in the payroll department. She then moved on to the staff benefits office. She met David in 1979 and married in December of 1981. She and David were blessed with the arrival of Jelena in 1982. Jackie had a great passion for flowers and crafts. She even had her own business with a friend called "Buds and Blooms". She loved her rock garden at the family cottage at Falcon Lake where she spent many hours. She loved the beach, boat rides, outdoor entertaining of friends and travel. She has travelled to Europe with Greece being her favourite, Mexico and Disneyland on a family trip. She loved animals so much that she had a goal to swim with the dolphins "and she did it". Jackie had a good luck charm "The Lady Bug", she collected them and had a house full of them. She was a person with a strong sense of humour and always put others before her. Just knowing Jackie a short time, you would want to be her friend. Jackie always said "Jelena was the joy of her life", and she loved being not only a mom, but Jelenas mom. She took great pride in her relationship with her daughter. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint). Interment will take place in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the reception centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7. Special thanks are extended to the nursing staff and many dear friends that have given love, support and care to both Jackie and her family. I know you lived your lifetime As short as that seems to me, But the pain in my heart is still so great, Yet I know your spirit is free. At times I think I hear you The thoughts come to my mind. I struggle for the sound of your voice, But your voice I cannot find. Yet you come to me in many ways So I know you did not die, You want to tell me that youre close, And to please stop asking Why. Our lives on earth seem all too brief, Or brief as it seems to me. But where you are is forever, God calls that Eternity! Thank you Jackie for being my beautiful caring wife. Thank you sweet mom for letting me be "Your Little Boo". Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 LAGIMODIERE BLVD. 982-7550
