Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRHOI (LAKH PAT RAI) GULIANI November 4, 1942 - January 23, 2003 Peacefully, with his family by his side on Thursday, January 23, 2003, at the St. Boniface Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer, Rhoi passed away at the age of 60. Left to mourn are his children, Sanjay (Janet) and Shereen and their mother Dawn; his nephew Vijay, (Jyoti) and their children, Jayesh, Vishal and Vilok. Rhoi will also be deeply missed by his family in India. He was the youngest of eight and was known as "Lakhu". Left to mourn are Sat Pal, Radha Krishan, Mohan Lal, Chanan Lal, Santosh, Devi. Rhoi was predeceased by his parents, Nihal Chand and Narain Devi Guliani; as well as his sister Vidya; and niece Nisha. Rhoi was born in Kapor, India, and left home at 17 years of age. He spent seven years in England where he had his own grocery business and worked as a machinist. He came to Canada in 1967 under contract with Bristol Aerospace, where he worked until 1975. He had a wholesale giftware business for a time, Gulianis Boutique in Westwood and later Sanjusha. For the past 10 years, he owned The Calico Clothing Company at Grant Park and Eaton Place, where he was affectionately known as the unofficial "Mayor of Eaton Place". He loved his business and worked hard at it. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humour and his generous spirit. Rhoi loved to entertain and be in the company of his many friends. He spent many a night with his children and their friends in their teen years, sitting around the kitchen table, chatting about life or giving advice. He was usually the centre of attention and kept everybody laughing with his quick wit. Everybody was welcome to the family home and his childrens friends became his own. He had the rare ability to make people feel good about themselves, and never forgot a name. Tasks that to most would seem impossible, were a welcome challenge to him. Rhoi was very proud of his children and was looking forward to the birth of his first grandchild, due in May. During his illness, he was able to realize the true dedicated friends that he had, and he passed away at peace with himself. He will be forever missed by his children, Sanjay and Shereen, nephew Jayesh and his special friends. We wish to express sincere thanks to the staff on 5B at St. Boniface Hospital for their compassion with a special thanks to Dr. Jerry Maniate and Dr. Tracy Crampton. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 27, at 2:30 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rhois memory, to the Canadian Cancer Society, 192 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7, or the Crohns and Colitis Foundation of Canada, 60 St. Claire Ave. E., Suite 600, Toronto, ON M4T 1N5.
